Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) formed in October 2000 is India’s largest telecommunications company, providing a wide range of telecom services. BSNL has installed Quality Telecom Network in the country and is focusing on improving it, expanding the network, introducing new telecom services with ICT applications in villages and winning the customer’s confidence.

Today, it has a customer base of about 68 million, which includes landline, mobile, WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) etc. In the Internet and broadband services, it has a base of about 3.5 million and 1.3 million valued customers. BSNL is the largest ISP in the country having the internet nodes operational in all district headquarters. All its landline connections are enabled for the Internet. It has India’s largest transmission network, comprising OFC (Optical Fibre Cable) Networks of 5.29 lakh route km, M/W (Micro wave) Networks of .50 lakh route km and 217 Satellite Earth Stations.

BSNL has the widest pan India cellular network, with an excellent coverage on national highways of over 51,645 km, state highways of over 58,030 km and railway route coverage of over 32,519 km. 

BSNL has also set up a world-class multi-gigabit, multi-protocol convergent IP infrastructure that provides convergent services like voice, data and video through the same backbone and broadband access network. BSNL is planning to launch Wi-Max, 3G mobile, FTTH and NGN technologies in its network during the current year. The broadband, GSM & fixed networks are being made content rich by offering value-added services
